PhD Stipend Extension Request by IITs, NITs, IISc for 1-Year due to Covid-19

Many institutions including IITs, NITs, IIsc requested Education Minister Ramesh Pokhrial in a virtual meeting to extend the period of scholarship for one another year due to pandemic Covid-19. Ph.D. Scholarship given to the research scholar for 5 years (JRF given for 1st three years and SRF for next 2 Years). The fellowship amount is 31000 to 35000 varies due to different HRA amounts. 

Many Ph.D. Students face difficulties in their research work due to Covid-restrictions. Many Problems came in their research like the restriction of entry in the institution and labs, difficulty in availability of research-related materials, etc. In view of all these difficulties institutions already extended the time period of submission of the final thesis but till now there is no discussion about the scholarship period.

Without financial assistance, many scholars forced to leave their Ph.D. The Heads of the institution discussed in the meeting that this situation is not good for the research development in the country. The decision regarding the extension has not come to an end still this is a matter of discussion. I will inform you all when an official statement came regarding this issue.
